November Volunteer of the Month-Michael Hayes

Congratulations to Michael Hayes for being chosen as Volunteer of the Month. Currently, Michael is on his second case. He completed training in April 2023 and was assigned his first case in May 2023. Michael’s first CASA child was reunited with his family shortly after he was assigned the case.

Presently, Michael is the CASA for 14-year-old Bryan. Bryan came into care in July 2023 due to allegations of neglect/dependency by his legal guardian, Ms. Jones*. Ms. Jones* gained guardianship of Bryan due to his mother's drug overdose. Reportedly, Ms. Jones abuses substances and alcohol. Ms. Jones* also has mental health issues and was diagnosed with anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and personality disorder and does not take her medication as prescribed. During the investigation, Ms. Jones* admitted to using cocaine and appeared under the influence as she was failing to stay awake while standing and shaking during the interview.

Since becoming Bryan’s CASA, Michael has forged a great working relationship with Bryan’s foster parents and DCFS Case Manager. He continues to keep everyone focused on Bryan’s needs and his best interests. Michael’s quiet, yet confident demeanor allows him to easily advocate for Bryan. Additionally, Michael continues to meet with Bryan monthly, interview all parties involved, communicate with me monthly, attend court hearings, and FTMs, and submit court reports for all court hearings.

Thank you, Michael, for your dedication to Bryan and your constant efforts to ensure that his needs are met. For the numerous hours that you worked on the case, phone calls, and visits. I know that you have made a tremendous difference in Bryan’s life, and you have formed relationships that will last for a lifetime.

Proud Advocate Supervisor,
