We are thrilled to share some exciting news! Today marks a significant milestone in our mission to advocate for youth in foster care. House Bill 905, a two-year pilot program, has been signed into law. This legislation is the result of dedicated efforts by Capital Area CASA Executive Director Allison Traxler, Louisiana CASA Executive Director Amanda Moody, and many other passionate community supporters.
Under this new law, jurors serving in the 19th Judicial District Court (JDC) now have the option to donate their per diem to CASA. This generous contribution will directly support our ongoing efforts to advocate for children in foster care during their judicial proceedings. By allowing jurors to donate their per diem, we are creating a new avenue for community members to get involved and make a tangible impact on the lives of vulnerable youth.
This achievement would not have been possible without the support and leadership of Representative Freiberg, who authored this crucial bill. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rep. Freiberg for championing this cause and to our Board of Directors and all the community supporters who have worked tirelessly to see this legislation come to fruition.
